Definition: A lighted instrument used during a colposcopy that magnifies the cervix.

The colposcope looks similar to a microscope and is an external instrument that rests outside of the vagina during the exam.

Also Known As: colpo
Examples: The doctor looked through the colposcope during the exam to identify any abnormalities on the cervix.
